STOP-MOTION FACIAL REPLACEMENTS

To create a distinct and realistic look, we developed custom facial replacements for our stop-motion films. Below is an overview of the process—from 3D sculpting and rigging, to resin 3D printing, and hand painting. Programs used for this project include ZBrush, Maya, and Chitubox.

CHARACTER MODELING

Each character was digitally sculpted from scratch in ZBrush, with a focus on realistic human proportions and surface detail.

The faces were designed with multiple interchangeable expressions, allowing them to be easily swapped out to show different emotions when printed.

3D PRINTED WITH PRECISION

The finalized sculpts were prepared for printing in Chitubox, where each piece was carefully oriented and supported to ensure optimal print quality.

The faces were printed using a high-resolution resin printer, then washed and cured under UV light. Afterward, they were sanded and refined to create smooth, polished surfaces ready for painting.

PAINTED WITH DELICACY

Each face was hand-painted using layered techniques to build depth and realism.

Attention to detail and careful color application bring the faces to life, resulting in a natural, lifelike finish. This final stage transforms the 3D prints into expressive, performance-ready pieces.
